CCBC cancels winter sports until at least April 1 due to COVID-19

CCBC announced Monday that it has cancelled winter sports competition and will not resume play until at least April 1 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Group Faculty of Beaver County introduced Monday that it has cancelled winter sports activities and won’t resume play till at the least April 1 as a result of unfold of COVID-19 all through Beaver County and Pennsylvania.

CCBC, which performs a junior school schedule as a part of Area 20 within the NJCAA, sponsors males’s and ladies’s basketball throughout the winter sports activities season. The college’s three different sports activities – males’s and ladies’s cross nation and ladies’s volleyball – have been paused for the 2020-21 season.

“With our Area XX companions, we’ve got thought-about a lot of situations concerning the feasibility of competing in NJCAA sports activities,” CCBC Director of Pupil Life and Athletic Administration Colin Sisk stated in a press launch. “Collectively, our institutional management has decided that cancelling our winter sports activities season is important to do our half in limiting the unfold of COVID-19 and to maintain our student-athletes and bigger group protected by abiding by the most effective practices and suggestions of the Commonwealth and CDC.”

Pupil-athletes shall be permitted to exercise and coaches will lead practices and different developmental alternatives whereas the groups are shut down. CCBC’s announcement means all three Beaver County school athletic packages are shut down in the meanwhile.

Geneva Faculty, which competes on the NCAA Division III degree, additionally stays idle, although the Presidents’ Athletic Convention has tentative plans to start play in basketball and swimming/diving on the finish of the month. A finalized schedule has but to be introduced.

Penn State Beaver, which competes as a part of the United States Collegiate Athletic Affiliation, has not resumed competitors because the pandemic started final March.
